My second book was an accident.  A friend from a Bible Study class, Bob Anderson, had just retired, and joined a creative writing group at the Appleton Public Library.  He was having fun and invited me to sit in on a session.  I loved it, but soon learned that my style of writing differed from the other members.  They all wrote fiction.  I was blessed with a strong memory, some of which reminded me I was never a very good liar.  So, I started writing memoirs.  At the time, the group met twice a month, and wrote one long story and one short story at each meeting. We would read our creations in front of the group.  Their reaction told me whether a story was worth entering into my computer at home and editing it into something worthwhile.  As a result, by year-end, I had over 30 stories from my youth, about people who spoke when they didn’t know I was listening, and acted when they didn’t know I was watching.  They taught me what it means to be a man.  These short stories became my second book, celebrating the affect regular everyday people can have on youth.
