Blog of Unpublished Short Stories
HI Avid Reader. Is there a story inside you trying to get out?
This blog is written for people who like to read, and are curious about what authors think about, and maybe wonder if someday they might pick up a pen and join the ranks.
It’s a broad world within which authors write. Walking through libraries or bookstores reveal the most obvious crops authors produce. Fiction stacked in rows divided by war, westerns, mystery, suspense, fantasy, romance and etc. Then there is history, religion, travel, entertainment, self-help and etc. The rows go on, and it may be tempting to think that these published works are the whole story. But, there is more.
I have been an author for many years, but did not publish my first book until after turning 74. Four more books came off the press by age 88 and, I have plans for more. But the bulk of my writing, during which I developed the skills that enabled me to publish, were nurtured by earlier writings. For example, each year I write a Christmas letter to friends and family giving them an excuse to smile or laugh about the adventures and mis-adventures that contributed to our past year. Facts are included to be sure, but the real purpose is to entertain recipients and make them eager to open next year’s letter.
I’ve done a lot of public speaking, both in business and among family and friends. I have emceed numerous banquets and recognition programs, spoken at weddings, birthday parties and funerals. All of these occasions called for careful writing of what was to be said, in a manner designed to call up appropriate emotional reactions.
I have long belonged to a creative writing group that causes me to write at least two new stories every month. I will be sharing many of these stories and speech scripts with you in this blog. Enjoy them, or use them to prime the creative juices that may put a pen in your own hand.
Enjoy!
